An obstacle course is one of my all-time favorite kids’ summer birthday party ideas. Kids love it, and if you’re creative, it won’t cost you a penny. Using toys and large items you have around the house, you can create an obstacle course in your yard. Here are some ideas for things to gather.
- hula hoops
- laundry baskets
- exercise balls and other balls
- wading pool
- Slip’n Slide
- lawn chairs
- garden hose
- scrap lumber, such as 2 x 4s
- burlap sacks
- pop-up tents or tunnels
- pool noodles
- baskets with handles
- bean bag toss games
- wiffle balls & bats
- tennis rackets

One of our favorite birthday party ideas is a cowgirl or cowboy birthday party because the western theme lends itself to so many fun decorating ideas, activities and treats. Just look what happened when we let celebrations.com go hog-wild with our Yee Haw Western Birthday Invitations. (They chose the blue and green version for a cowboy party, but if you’re looking for cowgirl birthday party ideas, check out our Pinterest board.)
