Featured Favorite

Real cards created by real people like you!

This lucky mom’s surprise 60th birthday party has been chosen as this month’s Featured Favorite, both for the darling decorations as well as the nerve of the two sisters who planned, plotted and pulled it off right under their mother’s nose.

“It was tough to keep it a surprise, especially since it was in her backyard!” says Shea, one of the party-planning sisters. Their plan was to set up the whole party in the back yard, while mom took a nap in the house. “My husband and I live out of state, so we had to have everything prepared ahead of time in order to set up within a 2-hour window that she would be taking a nap. It was a bit hectic, but we managed to pull it off. She was very surprised.”birthday party invitations

90th birthday party ideas

Birthday party ideasMy Grandma Rose is so special to my family and me. Turning 90 years old is quite the milestone, and we wanted to make her birthday party very special and memorable—not only for her, but for the guests!

All of our birthday party ideas started with the invite. I was unsure which card I wanted to use and was tossing around several ideas, including Postal Delivery Invitation Postcard, or repurposing our Lasting Introduction birth announcement or Circles of Celebration trifold party invitations, the two-sided tri-fold was perfect for a 90th birthday party invitation! I was able to share a timeline, showcasing the highlights of Grandma’s 90 years of happiness! To make these invites stick out in the mailbox, I used Tying the Knot Address Labels in hot pink to seal it shut.

I received a lot of compliments about the invite. One of Grandma’s friends was so excited that she said she had been showing everybody and was going to take it to coffee and show all of her friends! She said it was the most unique invite she had ever received.

Once the invite was ordered, I got to work on planning the party and making the decorations. I wanted the guests to leave with a remembrance of Grandma Rose, so I made little photo magnets using the same photos I used on the invite. Then I packaged them using clear bags and stapling Cupcake Love Kids Stationery and Looking Linear Confetti to the bags. It was a fun token for the guests to take home and put on their fridge in honor of Grandma Rose.

Summer Birthday Party Ideas: Box Fort Nerf Battle

My son is 14 now, and he still talks about his 7th birthday party as his best ever. I have to say it was pretty good–and super easy. First, I went to an appliance store and got 3 empty refrigerator boxes. Then I bought a Nerf gun (the kind that shoots foam darts) for each of the boys attending. If you don’t think Nerf guns are appropriate toys, you’d better stop reading right here! :)

Our thanks to letscountblessings.blogspot.com for the great photo of a similar party.

When the party guests arrived, I divided them into 3 teams and gave each team a refrigerator box. Their task was to come up with a team name, and use markers and washable paint to decorate their refrigerator box to match their name. I cut out a door in each box (with fabric hung across the opening so no one could see in) and windows with flaps so they could open and close them. Each team also got matching bandanas to tie around their heads to identify which team they were on. Continue reading
