“I’ll never forget the day the love of my life proposed to me. It was the most perfect way I could I ever imagine and would not change anything about it. It all happened on Monday, February 20, 2012. My fiancé, Piti, asked me to go to Santa Barbara, CA for the weekend to go visit his family. After the weekend, Piti said we would meet up with his family at the Santa Barbara Mission for a tea party at a nearby place before we head back home. When we arrived, we sat down at a bench at the rose garden to wait for everyone. As we sat there, Piti began talking about all the things he loved about me. All of a sudden, I thought I saw an old lady wearing a blue t-shirt that looked like my grandma walk by. Then followed by a man also wearing a blue t-shirt that strangely resembled my dad! As they got a closer and closer towards Piti and me, I realized it actually was my grandma and my dad! More and more people started to follow behind them in blue t-shirts! I soon realized it was my entire family and Piti’s family walking out in those blue t-shirts. One by one they each lined up and as they connected, the shirts spelled out “WILL YOU MARRY”. Akil and I have been dating for three years. He surprised me for my birthday 6/26 with Micheal Jackson Cirque De Solei tickets for friday 6/29. (I’m a HUGE MJ fan…hence the glove in our engagement photo.) After the show we went to our favorite bar Midtown Tavern. When we arrived he shocked me with an entire bar full of our friends for my surprise 29th birthday party. Thank you to everyone who submitted an entry for our “If I’d Only Known” grad contest. We loved reading the inspirational advice that is great for everyone to live by, not only grads. We also thoroughly enjoyed seeing the photos of parents from their high school days. The idea of graduating from high school and setting off for college can be filled with conflicting emotions. All at once you’re sad to be leaving friends while excited at the prospect of meeting new ones. Nervous about leaving home and yet thrilled to be striking out without Mom or Dad monitoring your every move. And even though you can never really return to the same role of “dependent child,” you don’t have to have it all figured out just yet. In fact, I would advise you to not even declare a major until you have to.
Move forward with an open mind and a heart filled with exploration. Never again in your life will your slate be as clean as it is today. Take a dance class even if you can’t climb stairs without tripping. Talk to strangers. Ask questions in class. Volunteer for an organization you’ve never heard of. Take up a cause. Keep a journal even if you feel you don’t have time. Consider an overseas study.
More than anything else, have fun! You have the rest of your life to be a serious adult. Discover who you’re meant to be without being untrue to whom you’ve already become. Continue reading →

Teacher Appreciation ContestHappy Teacher Appreciation Week! We love teachers for lots of reasons, but mainly because they teach kids how to write. After all, connecting with others through handwritten notes, letters and cards is what we’re all about at Pear Tree Greetings.
