For this designer, birth announcements are child’s play

Winter Birth AnnouncementWhat if you were a product designer at Pear Tree Greetings and part of your job was to come up with unique birth announcement ideas? Oh, and what if you were expecting your first child at the time? That’s the situation our designer, Michelle, found herself in recently. Our new collection of birth announcements debuted about a month after her son was born.

“I found the collection fun to work on since we were anticipating a baby of our own,” says Michelle. Now that baby Alexander has arrived, Michelle’s perspective has changed a little. “Being a Mommy, you want your announcements to be unique and one of a kind, just like your child.”

A unique birth announcement idea that is near and dear to Michelle’s heart is the Creative Baby Booklet, a 16-panel, folded card that was inspired by a childhood memory. “When I was a little girl, I was always creatively playing around with paper. I remember making a little booklet similar to the one in our collection. I thought it was so neat that one piece of paper could be turned into a little booklet, holding itself together. I have been wanting to fit this unique idea into one of our collections at Pear Tree – and it was the perfect fit for the birth announcements collection.” Since then, Pear Tree has added booklet designs to three other collections, including Save the Date Cards, Graduation Announcements and Easter Photo Cards.

No matter which of her own unique birth announcement ideas she chooses, we are thrilled for Michelle and happy to welcome baby Alexander into the Pear Tree family! Holiday Birth Announcements

winter birth announcementsCongratulations. You just received the best Christmas gift in the world—a new baby! While the holiday season may be the busiest time of year and sleep is something you daydream about and you haven’t even started your Christmas cards, you still want to share this blessed event with friends and family. We understand—we’ve been there! That’s why we created a special line of Christmas birth announcements for families just like yours.

These unique birth announcement ideas combine holiday messages with on-trend design and plenty of photos to make your holiday birth announcement sing “Joy to the World!” And since this is a holiday card from the whole family, many of our designs incorporate several photos that allow you to show the whole family along with your new bundle of joy. Some families, especially if this is their second child, choose to send winter baby announcements and Christmas cards separately so that one can focus on the baby and the other can be a greeting from the whole family. Either way is perfectly acceptable. The important thing is that you get some sleep!

Photography tips for taking great baby photos

Baby AnnouncementsBaby AnnouncementsBaby Announcements
We’ve all received them—baby announcements that look like something out of a magazine. Some of us are fortunate to have the help of a talented photographer, but what if you don’t? Here are infant photography tips for the non-professionals who want that gorgeous photo:
Photo tips

A close up is best.
Remember your baby is the hero! Your loved ones will want to see your baby’s features, and share it with others. A close-up will show just how special your little one is, and how daddy’s nose has been passed on to another generation.Use a nursing pillow if you have one.

It is a great way to prop your baby up for the perfect shot. Cover the nursing pillow with a blanket and place your baby in it for the photo. This makes it much easier to get a good angle for your shot.

Photo tipsLet sleeping babies lie. Don’t feel the need to wait until the baby is wide awake and smiling. Some of our favorite photos are of slumbering babies! They can be artful, simple and elegant. Not to mention that the subject of your photo will be a lot more cooperative, allowing you to get that perfect shot, even if it is 50 clicks later.

Use minimal, simple, or no props. Baptism invitations and Christmas birth announcements would seem to naturally lend themselves to adorable props. It’s tempting to go all out and surround the baby with toys and flair, but remember, your baby is the star. Anything else is a distraction. Nothing is cuter than a baby with a single prop or no prop at all.

Photo tipsNatural light is best. Take your photo outdoors or near a window for the best light, but avoid direct sunlight. Too much light can wash out the details, like those perfect dimples. That’s an infant photography tip from the pros.

Automatic camera setting. Many digital cameras have settings for portraits or close-ups that can help you take the perfect photo without having to adjust lighting, focus, etc. With a little experimentation, finding the right setting can make things easier.

Take the photo when you are not rushed. The last of the infant photography tips would be to make sure the baby should be fed and changed or sleeping. Have fun and try not to stress about it. The worst that can happen is that you have a hundred new photos of your baby to peruse!
