New Ways to Meet Mommy Friends

We all know it is tough to meet new mommy friends especially when you are new in town. Read below as one of our Pearistas, See Vanessa Craft, talks about her experience meeting new mommy friends and tips that can help you!

I remember that first week of being a new stay at home mom, my husband had to return to work and my mom left back on a plane to New Mexico. It was just me, responsible for keeping this tiny little newborn alive. Cue freak out! Whether you are a working mom or stay at home mom, that transition into your new mom role can be tough. I went from working 70+ hours a week, in a very social job, to only having my colicky newborn to talk to. I loved being able to stay at home with my baby, but we are naturally hardwired to connect to other people – other people that can communicate back with more than a coo or giggle (as priceless as those moments are). I quickly discovered the importance of mommy friends, but how does one make mommy friends? Here are my 5 tips for meeting mommy friends.

1. Put yourself out there. Finding mommy friends is a bit like dating, you have to put yourself out there. Don’t be afraid to hand out your digits if you feel like you click. Sometimes you might experience rejection, but more likely than not you’ll walk away with a new play date buddy. Chances are, the other mom is just as nervous as you are about putting herself out there.

2. Get some mommy cards made. Mommy cards are like business cards, but especially for moms! Pear Tree Greetings has a fabulous selection of mommy cards, many of which you can add photos to and customize colors. I like to keep a couple with me in my diaper bag, just in case we meet a new mom and kid at the park that we might want to hang out with later. My mommy card has my name, Logan’s name, my email address and telephone number on it. They are super convenient for coordinating play dates, carpools and more.

3. Seek out local play date groups. Check with your local community association or community center, your area might already have established mom groups that meet regularly. You could also check meetup.com or ask other moms in your neighborhood if they know of any play date groups.

Our Top 5 Graduation Party Decoration Ideas

Our new graduation party decorations are super versatile to use when planning a graduation party. We put together 5 graduation party decoration ideas using different versions of our table decor from Pear Tree Greetings!

1. Wall Decor. We used our Glam Grad Gold Graduation Party Decorations and taped pieces to the wall to make this fun (and easy!) design. This display was great by the food table, but could be used wherever you would like. It’s a great way to showcase the grad’s photos with a little sparkle!

2. Hanging Decor. Using our Snapshot Graduation Party Decorations, we took twine and clothespins and hung the table decor pieces and mixed in photos of the grad – from baby pictures to senior year. It displayed nicely across the dessert table and was great for the guests to see how he has grown through the years.

3. Advice Cards. This is a fun, interactive way to get your guests pinning their advice for you as you continue your journey ahead. For this idea, we used our Big Impression Graduation Party Decorations and filled in the smaller pieces with the graduating year and the graduate’s name. We used one of the editable text pieces to tell guests what to do with the photo pieces: “I would love to hear your advice as I embark on my journey ahead. Then ‘Pin It’ to my board!” You’ll get comments from your parents, aunts, uncles, classmates, everyone who attends your party!

4. Door Decor. This is such a fun way to let guests know they have arrived at the right graduation party! Create a collage with your favorite graduation party decorations! We used our Bright Future Graduation Party Decorations to achieve this bold look. All you have to do is tape the pieces together to create the look you like, tape it to the door and then, poof, you’re done!

5. Centerpiece Statement. Another fun idea to glam up your graduation party is to create centerpiece statements. They work perfectly for displaying on your dessert table and guest book table. It’s a great conversation starter to get people talking about you, the grad, and how they know you. Just takes a few jars, some pretty flowers, and coordinating fabric pieces to hold your favorite graduation party decorations in place. Simply stunning – and I bet your guests will agree!

His+Hers=Ours: Save the date card ideas

Hello, again. Scott and I approached the six month mark till our wedding!! Ahhh, we are so excited! Everything has been going well so far (fingers crossed it stays like that). We have gotten a lot crossed off our list since our last post, Engagement photo ideas. We picked out our bridesmaid dresses, we have our taste-testing scheduled, we registered (so much fun!), AND we mailed our save the dates!!
We looked at many save the date card ideas, but in the end we chose the Gingham Photo Greeting from our Christmas card collection. We thought the Polaroid design was fun and loved that it’s strung by ribbon – so creative and unique! We used four of our favorite photos, changed the colors to match our wedding colors and chose a more romantic looking font, since this is for a wedding.

On the back, we talked about how excited we were for our guests to come and celebrate with us, and also directed them to our wedding website to learn more about us, our wedding party, and to get all the details for our ceremony, reception and hotel.

We found address labels to match our Polaroid theme to seal the envelopes, Christmas Brings Baby – Photo Address Labels. This design allowed us to sneak in another of our favorite photos (Yes!) in which we are holding a ribbon strung with the words “yes yes yes.” We thought this would be the perfect photo for our guests to see before opening the envelope (and it was a little peek at what our save the dates looked like). We placed the address labels on top of the envelope flap to seal them shut so we didn’t have to lick each envelope – this is a tip I learned from Pear Tree and one of my faves!

We are so happy with how our save the date card ideas turned out, from the photos to the address labels, to the card itself! We’ve gotten such wonderful compliments from our family and friends. We can’t wait to celebrate with everyone!
